Youth Leadership

4-H Camp Counselors

Must be a minimum age of 14 years old by July 1.  Counselors are expected to attend training sessions and assist with the county 4-H camp session for 3rd-6th graders, horse camp for all 4-H members or Cloverbud Day Camp for K-2nd graders.  Their job at camp is to lead activities and to see that the campers are well supervised and having a good time.  Counselor applications are due and interviews take place early in the year.

4-H CARTEENS

CARTEENS (Cautious and Responsible Teens) is a volunteer program for teens between the ages of 14 and 18.  Their goal is to inform teens about the dangers and risks involved with driving; they plan, facilitate, teach and serve as peer counselors for the 4-H CARTEEN sessions.  CARTEEN volunteers in conjunction with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Metro Health Life Flight teach traffic safety education to first-time teen traffic offenders in an interactive program.  It is a great way to gain leadership, public speaking, and organizational skills.  No application is required; contact the OSU Extension office for more information.

4-H Food and Fashion Board

The board consists of approximately 20 members of at least 11 years of age and having at least 2 years of sewing or food project experience.  They plan and conduct the county Food & Fashion program, assist with food and clothing evaluations days, plan and put on county Style Revue program and help promote 4-h food and clothing projects.  Meeting is monthly.

Junior Fair Board

The Junior Fair Board is responsible for establishing exhibit classes and rules for the Jr. Fair.  They organize, prepare for and conduct the activities of the Jr. Fair.  They are active January through December.  Youth must be 15 years of age on January 1 and not turn 19 before January 1 and be a member of Lorain County 4-H, FFA, FFCLA, Farm Bureau Youth or Campfire USA.  Application is required.

Junior Leadership

Junior Leadership is open to youth 7th grade or older.  They plan an active yearly schedule or social, service, educational and fun activities.  The club meets monthly, year-round.  No application is required; contact the OSU Extension office for more information.
