40 Years of 4-H Youth Government Day

Lorain County Jr. Leaders have spent the last two months learning about local government and will have the opportunity to shadow a local official on November 19th.

The members have created two mock political parties to nominate candidates for office.  To participate in Youth Government Day, members participate in the quiz bowl and give creative campaign speeches.  Candidates will be "elected" to office at the special Election Day meeting.  This year there are approximately 20 offices available for candidates to shadow.  Elected Jr. Leaders have spent the day participating in commissioners' meetings, walking through the judges' chambers, and riding with the Sheriff.  The day ends with a banquet recognizing the county offices who participated and listening to the experiences of the members.  We are very excited that this is the 40th year for this event in Lorain County!  Thank you to our commissioners for hosting Youth Government Day!  For more information, please contact the Extension Office at 440-326-5851.
